Superhero film tops box office

It seems like Korea has fallen in love with Marvel over the weekend. While many people went to Mapo District to watch scenes being filmed for the next “Avengers” movie, others went to the cinema to see superhero Captain America.

According to the Korean Film Council, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” gained 1.1 million admissions over the weekend from 1,106 screens nationwide, earning 10 trillion won, or $10 million.

Meanwhile, “Noah” floated a level down to No. 2 and gained 326,741 admissions. The Korean film “Elegant Lies” added 200,652 viewers and finished third. Following was Wes Anderson’s arthouse film “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” which went up a spot from last week, gaining 115,172 viewers.

“Non-Stop” finished No. 5, adding 25,742 viewers. No. 6 was “300: Rise of an Empire” with 16,456, slightly trailed by two animated feature films, “The Tibetan Dog” and “Jungle Master.”

The megahit local film “Miss Granny,” hit No. 9, followed by thriller film “Monster.”
