GS construction wins $5.35 million project in Venezuela

GS Engineering and Construction, the nation’s sixth-largest builder, said yesterday it won a $5.35 million project management consulting job for an expansion of the El Palito Oil Refinery in Venezuela.

The company, which is under GS Group, said it will support state-run Petroleos de Venezuela’s evaluation of builders for the project for six months. GS E&C said that this was the first time a local company won a project management consulting job for an overseas refinery. It formed a joint venture with Italy’s APS and Venezuela’s Inelectra for the job.

The project aims to expand the capacity of El Palito Oil Refinery. Japan’s Toyo Engineering, Italy’s Foster Wheeler and Venezuela’s Y&V are competing for the project’s engineering, procurement and construction business.
