U-16 squad battles Portugal to 0-0 draw

Korea’s U-16 football team drew 0-0 against Portugal in the 42nd Mondial Football Montaigu in France. The young Taegeuk Warriors led by coach Choi Jin-cheul picked up one point in the first group round match on Tuesday. Choi started FC Barcelona’s top prospects midfielder Jang Gyeol-hee and striker Lee Seung-woo.

Eight nations, France, Turkey, Canada and the Ivory Coast are participating in the event. Korea is in Group B with England, Portugal and Saudi Arabia. The top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals.

Korea will face England on Thursday.
