Daewoo E&C to build part of subway line in Singapore

Daewoo Engineering and Construction, Korea’s third-largest builder, said yesterday that it secured a $352 million order to build part of a subway line in Singapore.

The company said it got the contract from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority to build 3.2 kilometers of the Thomson Line, which includes one station and some 2.93 kilometers of tunnel. Construction is expected to take five and a half years.

Daewoo E&C said that the new subway line will be about 30-kilometers long and it will also will also be responsible for building a section that passes through Stevens station.

The builder said that this is the first time that it won a project for the Singaporean government.
