LG’s new G3 phone to be launched this month

LG Electronics will launch its new flagship smartphone, the G3, in five countries late this month.

According to CNet, the company sent invitations to the press to launch events that will be held in New York, San Francisco and London on May 27. On May 28, launch events will be held in Seoul, Singapore and Istanbul, the report said.

The invitation did not reveal the phone’s name or any other details. But it bore a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson - “To be simple is to be Great” - with a capitalized G. And the previous top-of-the-line phone from the company was the G2.

While announcing its first-quarter earnings on Tuesday, LG said it would launch the new phone in late May or early June. The company was not available for a comment yesterday.

According to advance reports, the G3 will sport a 5.5-inch quarter high-definition display. A QHD display has better resolution than a full high-definition display.

If confirmed, this will be the first smartphone from Korea to have a QHD display.

The phone is also known to have a quad-core 2.gigahertz Snapdragon 801 processor and 16 million pixel rear camera. The G2, which was released last August, had a 5.2-inch full HD display, a Snapdragon 800 processor and a 13 million pixel rear camera.
