Samsung Electronics plans to release a new Amoled display-loaded tablet PC next month, a report said yesterday.
The news reports, which cited industrial sources, said Samsung will release a tablet PC sporting the premium active-matrix, organic, light-emitting diode screen on June 11 in New York.
If confirmed, it will be the first Amoled tablet PC by Samsung since it rolled out the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in 2012 with the world’s first Amoled display on a tablet PC. The new Amoled Tablet PC, known as the “Galaxy Tab S,” will come in two sizes, 10.5-inch and 8.4-inch, the report said.
Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone maker, is catching up with Apple in tablet PCs. According to market researcher Strategy Analytics, Samsung’s global market share in tablet PCs was 22.6 percent in the first quarter as opposed to Apple’s 28.9 percent. In the same quarter a year earlier, Samsung had 18.9 percent market share behind Apple’s 40.3 percent.
