‘My Love From the Star’

HB Entertainment, the production team of SBS’s megahit drama “My Love From the Star,” announced yesterday that they will strongly “confront” a lawsuit filed by cartoonist Kang Kyung-ok, who claimed that the drama plagiarized her popular comic series “Seol Hee.”

“We will confront with strong legal measures Kang’s 600 million won worth of damages suit filed against us [production company and scriptwriter],” said HB yesterday.

The company also claimed that HB and the drama’s scriptwriter Park Ji-eun have all the evidence and witnesses they need to prove that they have worked on the drama’s script since 2003. The officials also added that they are ready to take legal actions regarding mental and material damages as well as the expected losses in the future.

The statement also included that the attitude of the imprudently filed plagiarism lawsuit goes in synonymous with a death sentence to the creators and should be “eradicated.”

Cartoonish Kang had filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against HB Entertainment and writer Park on April 20, saying that the synopsis for the drama was too similar to her own comic series “Seol Hee” that was published in 2008.
