LG CNS given Brill Award for having excellent data center

LG CNS said yesterday that its data center in Busan has overcome 1,278 to 1 odds to receive a Brill Award, one of the most prominent awards given to the world’s best corporate data centers.

The Seoul-based company said it had competed with 23,000 other entries to the 2014 Brill Awards from around the world and was included among the 18 honorees.

The award was created by the Uptime Institute, the world’s only data center licensing agency, according to LG.

It is one of only two Asian companies to receive the award this year. The other Asian winner is Taiwan’s Taiwan Mobile. The data centers at Fidelity Investments, Morgan Stanley and Telefonica were among the other winners.

LG was credited in particular for its energy efficiency.

“LG CNS’s Busan facility is a containerized data center that includes a chimney-style hot-air exhaust and hybrid cooling system, which the company developed itself and applied for the first time in Korea,” the Uptime Institute said on its website. “The LG Facilities Management staff manages this unique system to achieve eight months free cooling.”
