Arsonist sets fire on Subway Line No. 3 train, forces hundreds to flee
A fire inside a passenger car of the subway Line no. 3 arriving at Dogok Station in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, this morning at around 10:54 a.m. left hundreds of passengers to flee.
According to the police, a hefty man in his 60s allegedly set fire to a seat in the car after dousing it with paint thinner before escaping the scene shortly afterwards.
The arsonist, who was reportedly wearing a plum-colored shirt, was arrested shortly afterwards, according to the police.
The fire was contained some six minutes after around 150 firefighters and emergency workers were immediately mobilized to the station.
Dogok Station was shut down because of the smoke, according to station officials.
Casualties have not been reported so far.
