Lebanese ambassador dies in Namsan tunnel accident

Lebanon’s ambassador to South Korea Jad Saeed El-Hassan was killed in a car accident in Namsan Tunnel No. 3 in central Seoul a little past noon today.

The Lebanese envoy was driving through the tunnel in Yongsan District when the Hyundai Genesis he was riding in rear-ended a Hyundai Equus around 12:08 p.m.

El-Hassan died en route to the hospital. Two people in the Equus are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, according to police officials.

An official of the Lebanese Embassy in Seoul confirmed El-Hassan’s death and said the ambassador had been on his way to City Hall when passing through the tunnel.

Police and fire officials said they are confirming details of the accident.

Traffic was halted in the area for 90 minutes following the accident.
