LG U+ tests broadband that is four times faster than LTE

LG U+, the nation’s third-largest mobile carrier, said yesterday it has succeeded in testing 3 band carrier aggregation (CA) technology, which has a download speed that is four times faster than long-term evolution (LTE) technology.

The mobile carrier said it was the first company in the world to use the 3 band CA technology on a commercial network.

Its demonstration showed a download speed of 300 megabits per second by bundling 2.6 GHz LTE broadband, 800 MHz and 2.1 GHz LTE bands at a test site near Sangam-dong, Mapo district, northern Seoul, yesterday.

The 3 band CA technology is a next generation network that increases download speeds by connecting three LTE frequencies.

Now that LG U+ has confirmed that 3 band CA can be used in a commercial network, it plans to commercialize 3 band CA in the second half of this year, the company said.
