LG Electronics awarded patent in Korea for Knock Code

LG Electronics said yesterday it has been issued patent No. 10-1404234 for its smartphone user interface Knock Code from the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

Knock Code, first introduced on the G Pro 2 smartphone, divides the screen into four rectangular areas and designates a number to each rectangle. To unlock the phone, the user taps the rectangles in a preset order.

The company is promoting it as a signature user interface and seeking to secure the patent elsewhere, including in North America and Europe.

Early this year, the Korean Intellectual Property Office issued patent No. 10-1359233 for another LG user interface, Knock On. Introduced on the G2 smartphone last year, the Knock On enables the user to turn the screen off and on by knocking on the display twice.
