Russia bestows Hyundai with quality management prize
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia won a quality management award from the Russian government yesterday, the first of its kind given to a foreign company. The automaker received the grand prize in the large-company category - consisting of companies with more than 1,000 employees - at the government complex in Moscow. The awards ceremony was led by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, while other high-level officials attended.
Hyundai received the award just three years after opening a production line in Russia. The company was praised for the quality of its cars, as well as its corporate leadership, customer service and corporate social responsibility efforts.
With the award, Hyundai hopes to boost its brand awareness, not only in Russia but elsewhere in Eastern Europe, too. A flagship model of Hyundai Motor Russia, Solaris, also called Accent in Korea, is the best-selling imported compact car in the country, holding almost 15 percent of the market share. The model was also chosen as the best compact car at the Russian Car of the Year awards.
