‘Detective K’ team returns to set

Accomplished actor Kim Myung-min will return to the silver screen to star in the sequel to “Detective K,” according to distributor Showbox Media yesterday.

“We will come up with the same production team from 2011,” noted Showbox, adding that the new heroine for the film would be actress Lee Yeon-hee of the latest MBC drama “Miss Korea” (2013).

The film, set in the 18th century, follows a genius detective played by Kim as he solves a series of mysterious murder cases in the Joseon Dynasty’s capital of Hanyang, which later became Seoul. The first film attracted 4.7 million viewers during New Year holidays in 2011.

Actor Oh Dal-su of the megahit film “The Attorney” (2013) will join the film once again to add hilarity to the story.

Kim Seok-yun, who directed the original in 2011, will return as the director. He has recently been producing television entertainment shows such as JTBC’s “Shinhwa Broadcast: Season 2.”

The sequel to “Detective K” will hit local cinemas during the 2015 New Year holidays.
