Yatap High shortstop signs with the Yankees

It looks like the New York Yankees will be the first professional ball club for one of Korea’s top shortstop prospects, Park Hyo-jun.

Park Dong-hoon, father of Park, told reporters Saturday that his 18-year-old son, who is currently attending Yatap High School, has decided to wear pinstripes.

“The club offered a very good contract that includes providing an interpreter and an accommodation to help my son adapt to Major League Baseball,” said the father. He didn’t reveal any more details, but sources said the Yankees offered a contract of $1 million to $1.2 million.

This season, Park hit .467 (14 hits in 10 games) with three home runs and 18 RBIs. He has an on-base percentage of .614 and a slugging percentage of .967.
