Doosan Group’s devotion to CSR dates back to 1978, when the Doosan Yonkang Foundation was established to commemorate the late Park Doo-byung, its first chairman. In honor of Park’s lifelong belief that “education is the driving force of a nation’s development,” the foundation has sponsored scholarships, funding for research and overseas academic tours for teachers.
Each company in the group emphasizes CSR activities with committed departments. The departments specialize in encouraging voluntary participation and open communication of employees, as well as organizing volunteer groups and promoting payroll giving, matching grants and paid volunteer work. The recent focus has been on enhancing the competitiveness of local communities. Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction’s Doosan Youth Energy Project, Doosan Group’s The Time Traveler and Doosan Infracore’s Dream School are all examples of the company’s projects to nurture the potential of local youth.
Doosan’s companies are also using their strengths as industry leaders to give back to various communities. Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction has invested in local talents and supported underprivileged households in Changwon City and Doosan Infracore runs Project Hope in China, through which it has been building elementary schools since 2001. Doosan Engine, on the other hand, works to protect the ocean. The marine engine manufacturer regularly cleans up the seashore near Changwon and Jinhae by collecting waste.
