YG’s Winner to make debut Aug. 1

YG Entertainment has announced that its all-male group Winner will debut Aug. 1.

Many fans have welcomed the news as it is the first boy group the agency has introduced in eight years, after Big Bang in 2006.

The group earned its name after winning a reality TV competition with another team of trainees at YG last year, which was broadcast on the show “Win (Who Is Next).”

The successful team, which earned the name “Winner,” participated in another reality TV show, “Winner TV,” showing how the members are getting ready for their debut. They performed as guests at Big Bang’s concert in Japan while awaiting their official debut.

“The group has earned some stage experience to get themselves better equipped for a debut, and finally they are presenting themselves to fans who have been waiting for so long,” said the company in a press release.

The group added that many netizens have shown excitement over the group’s arrival in the local music scene after they watched the last teaser movie released by the group.
