Dermatology company reaches 20 million filler procedures

Galderma Korea, a leading dermatology products developer, said yesterday its flagship Restylane, the No. 1 brand in the local filler market, had reached 20 million procedures.

Galderma is a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and marketing of dermatological treatments and was formed in 1981 as a joint venture between Nestle and L’Oreal. To celebrate the milestone, the company opened a Beauty Museum in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul, where it will hold a Beauty Week exhibition from today through next Wednesday for consumers.

The company said the record of 20 million procedures was made in just five years after it hit 10 million. Produced in Sweden in 1996 as the world’s first hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler, Restylane is now sold in about 70 countries.

As the so-called petit plastic surgery market expands in Korea, many foreign filler brands are joining the market. Restylane accounts for about 40 percent of the domestic market. The product is popular because it has fewer side effects and no dermatological irritation.
