1st-half plant construction orders up 20% year-on-year

Korea received plant construction orders worth $33.7 billion in the first half of this year, about 20 percent higher than in the same period last year, according to the Trade Ministry yesterday.

The country made record sales despite political instability in its traditional plant customers in the Middle East, largely due to mass oil and gas plant orders from the Americas and Africa, one of the world’s hottest emerging markets, the ministry said.

Almost 87 percent of total orders were for power plants, oil refineries and petrochemical plants.
