Walkie-talkie frequencies will double starting todayThe Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said its revised regulation doubling the number of frequencies used for walkie-talkies takes effect today. The change is expected to enhance the quality of communications and primarily benefit police, firefighters, safety professionals and private sector workplaces. About 1,640 frequencies currently handle communications for 620,000 public and industrial workers. In addition to enhancing communication in cases of emergencies and natural disasters, the ministry hopes the change will stimulate demand for walkie-talkies, which is estimated to grow about 7.8 percent annually.
