S-Oil, the nation’s third-largest refiner, will donate 150 million won ($145,724) to the families of firefighters who died in a helicopter accident in Gwangju on Thursday.
The five firefighters aboard the helicopter were on their way back to headquarters after helping search for the missing Sewol ferry disaster victims.
S-Oil said that it is giving its condolences to the firefighters’ families while also donating 30 million won to each of them.
Since 2006, S-Oil has held the Hero Firefighters Award every year to reward dedicated firefighters who risk their own lives to rescue people in danger. Over nine years, the company has supported the families of 42 firefighters who died on duty.
