The Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) yesterday signed a letter of agreement with Vietnam’s Long An Provincial People’s Committee to build a 1,200-megawatt thermal power plant in the region’s industrial complex, located about 30 kilometers (18 miles) southwest of Ho Chi Minh City.
Last year. Korea’s state-run power generator also received an order from the Vietnamese central government in a consortium with Japan’s Marubeni Corporation to build another 1,200-megawatt coal thermal power plant in Nghi Son - part of the country’s national development plan to purchase electricity 25 years after completion.
The deal is expected to generate approximately 1.5 trillion won ($1.4 billion) for Korea.
