Researchers find way to clean cells to prevent type 2 diabetes

A local research group found a way to clean cells to control the main cause of type two diabetes.

According to Lee Myung-shik, the lead researcher of the team and a professor of medicine at Sungkyunkwan Medical Samsung Seoul Hospital, an insoluble protein called amyloid, which accumulates in the pancreas, causes 90 percent of type two diabetes in Korean patients.

Lee explained that when a naturally formed chemical called trehalose is injected, it triggers a cleansing in a cell and gets rid of the amyloid and prevents further accumulation.
