Daewoo shipbuilder signs deal to do consulting at BAE

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), one of Korea’s top three shipbuilders, announced yesterday that it had signed a consulting contract with BAE Systems Maritime-Naval Ships (BAE), which produces warships.

Under the contract, DSME will assess BAE’s shipbuilding processes and dock operations and will propose ways for it to increase productivity. DSME will deliver its report in November.

The affiliate of Europe’s top defense contractor BAE Systems Group said that it was impressed by DSME’s production when working with the company in 2012.

DSME said it hopes to gain a competitive edge in battleships through the consulting contract.
