Samsung hits record high market share of TVs in America

Samsung Electronics has posted a record high market share in the North American TV market.

NPD DisplaySearch said on Tuesday that 35.6 percent of all TV products sold in the region in the first half of this year were Samsung, a record high figure for a January-June period. It is a 6.2 percentage point increase from the first half of 2013.

In the ultra high-definition TV sector, Samsung took 53.2 percent of the market share in terms of sales. Samsung seized the No.1 spot in the segment with a 49.8 percent share in December, five months after it introduced its UHD TV in North America.

In the 60-inch or bigger premium TV market, Samsung took a 45.7 percent share, up from 33.2 percent in the first half of 2013.
