STX shipbuilder wins order from Singaporean company

STX Offshore and Shipbuilding said yesterday that it won a $330 million order to build eight medium-range tankers for Singapore shipper Navig8 Chemical Tankers.

The company said that it signed the contract to build eight 49,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) sized tankers, with the option to build an additional four vessels.

The first eight tankers will be delivered starting in March 2016. This is STX Offshore and Shipbuilding’s second contract with Navig8 Chemical Tanker this year. The two also inked a deal in February for eight large-range tankers. STX Offshore and Shipbuilding said it is trying to restructure its business portfolio to get more orders for midsize vessels.
