CLAZZIQUAI

“Blink”

Label: KT Music

Genre: Electronica

Clazziquai, a local group known as leaders in the electronica genre in Korea, returns with a sixth album. This time, though, a different genre of songs is packed into the record, “Blink,” from funky electronic tracks to ballads. Even the cohesive Latin electronic song, “Life Etc.,” has an addictive hook.

The album is imbued with the authenticity that earned the group its fame for the last 10 years. Over the course of 10 tracks, Clazziquai shows off mature and catchy songs, which are definitely enough to pull you in immediately.

Including the leading track “Come Back to Me,” along with “Satellite,” “Madly” and “Android,” most of the songs are reminiscent of the group’s past hits with trendy yet sentimental melodies and electronic sounds. But despite that, “Maybe Baby,” a duet by group members Alex and Horan, arouses a melancholic feeling with its darker, edgier beats. “Think About you Habitually” by Alex seems like a cry to understand people who have just fallen out of love and makes him sound vulnerable yet appealing. This new album absolutely embraces the musical trace Clazziquai has chased for the past 10 years. By Kim Ji-min, contributing writer
