Kogas opens new Daegu HQ

After taking a week to relocate from its former headquarters in Bundang, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, the state-run Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) on Wednesday started operating at its new headquarters in Sinseo Innovation City, eastern Daegu.

“For Kogas, relocating to Daegu is the very first step to becoming a strong energy business that will stay sustainable for next 100 years,” said Jang Seok-hyo, CEO of Kogas.

Kogas hopes to develop Daegu into a gas energy hub, and eventually connect its work with the Korea National Oil Corporation, which will relocate to Ulsan.

In August, Kogas said it will expand its cooperation with Daegu-based natural gas companies and start new R&D projects with local research institutes and universities.

Besides Kogas, 10 public institutions are scheduled to move out of Seoul and Gyeonggi by 2021 as part of the government’s plan to help the economies of cities south of Seoul.
