Lotte Liquor to start selling Kloud beer in Los Angeles

Lotte Liquor announced on Sunday that it will market its signature new beer Kloud in the United States, one of the biggest beer markets in the world.

The liquor maker said that it has exported 20,000 bottles of Kloud to Los Angeles. Lotte said the successful performance of the new beer locally led to the overseas expansion. Kloud debuted in April, and within 100 days of its release 27 million bottles had been purchased.

Before Kloud was introduced, the beer market was dominated by Oriental Brewery, with 50 percent of the domestic market, and Hite-Jinro, which had a 40 percent share, according to the Korea Alcohol and Liquor Industry Association.

At wholesale stores in Los Angeles, the 330-milliliter (11-ounce) Kloud will sell for $1 and the 500-milliliter bottle will be $2. Lotte set a sales target of 150,000 bottles by the end of this year.
