‘My Bride’ spends 2nd week leading box office

For two weeks in a row, “My Love, My Bride,” a rom-com remake by Lim Chan-sang, topped the local box office, according to the Korean Film Council yesterday.

The movie garnered 396,163 viewers to bring its two-week total to 1,441,896. It has made 11.3 billion won ($10.7 million) so far. Its realistic depiction of marriage and the troubles that come with it has sparked empathy with the characters from modern-day audiences.

In second place was Luke Evans’s “Dracula Untold,” which pulled in 260,592 viewers over the weekend, followed by “Whistle Blower,” which attracted 170,691 people. The film, inspired by a real-life scientific scandal, has sold 1,555,718 tickets so far.

Action flick “The November Man” debuted in fourth place domestically with 127,417 ticket sales. The film follows Peter, a retired CIA agent played by Pierce Brosnan, who is given a secret mission by his former boss to extract undercover agent Natalia (Mediha Musilovic).

French comedy “Serial (Bad) Weddings” opened with 84,013 ticket sales and landed in sixth place. It depicts the various issues that come with having son-in-laws from all over the world in a family that has many daughters.

Music drama “Begin Again” managed to grip ninth place with 29,234 moviegoers 10 weeks after it opened on Aug. 13. It has amassed an audience of 3,388,722 so far and has made 16.8 billion won - the film’s largest box office profit among all the countries the movie was released in.
