Korail’s Airport Railroad Express commutes from Seoul Station to Incheon International Airport in 43 minutes. Provided by the company

Korea Railroad Corporation’s Airport Railroad Express (AREX) offers a comfortable ride at a cheaper price for passengers wishing to travel from Incheon International Airport to central Seoul.

Groups with more than four passengers can buy tickets at a discounted rate. The original cost of 8,000 won ($7.30) is discounted 25 percent to 6,000 won. According to a company official, foreigners have purchase more than half of the discounted tickets. AREX attributes its popularity among foreign passengers to its online advertisements on its blog and website in English, Chinese and Japanese.

There are two types of trains currently available. One is the express train that travels straight to the destination in 43 minutes without stopping. By car, it takes more than an hour to get from Seoul Station to the airport. The other is the all-stop train that stops at all 11 stations in between. The fare for the express train is 8,000 won and the all-stop train costs a maximum of 3,950 won with a transportation card.

For the user’s convenience, the railway operator has recently installed a rest room inside its express train. In addition, passengers who travel on the express train can relax in the comfortable seats inside special lounges. The lounges are located near the gates to the express train at Incheon Airport Station and Seoul Station.

Also, passengers who fly on Korean Air, Asiana or Jeju Air can enjoy hassle-free travel without going through all the lines by taking advantage of the quick check-in process at Seoul Station’s City Airport Terminal.

More information is available on the AREX website (www.arex.or.kr).
