Woman is arrested for Suzy tweets

An Internet user who is under suspicion of sending spiteful messages to Suzy on Twitter was arrested by the police on Tuesday.

The woman, who is in her 30s, told Gangnam Police Precinct on Tuesday night that she was jealous of Suzy, a member of girl group Miss A, because her husband is a big fan of the 20-year-old singer.

The Internet user allegedly sent malicious messages to Suzy such as “You have to die” or “I want to see you die in a car accident.”

Her case was sent to the prosecutors’ office. She will be tried for defamation.

Under the current telecommunications law, the woman faces fines of up to 50 million won (about $45,000) or a jail term of up to seven years.

JYP Entertainment, Suzy’s agency, said it will consider “no leniency to the malicious Internet user.”

Having debuted in 2012 as a member of girl group Miss A, Suzy has released numerous albums as part of the band and has also starred in films such as “Architecture 101” (2012) and drama series like “Gu Family Book” (2013). She also has a prolific acting career.

Since Suzy is one of the most popular celebrities in Korea, she has been troubled by many malicious Internet rumors over the past years.
