The upper torso of a body was found in a garbage bag Friday on a mountain hiking trail in Suwon, Gyeonggi, the police said.

The body was missing its head, arms and internal organs. Police assume it was part of a woman’s corpse but could not confirm.

Around 1 p.m., a hiker surnamed Lim, spotted a black plastic garbage bag that was open with part of a body hanging out. Lim reported the finding to the Suwon Seobu Police.

The body was missing its head and arms, and its internal organs had been removed, police said.

“It seems the person was killed not too long ago, considering the degree of the body decay,” said a police official.

Some locals questioned whether the woman could have been the victim of organ traffickers.

However, the police said they doubted it because there were no signs of surgical scars but added that they would look into the possibility because most of the main organs were missing except for the kidneys.

Police did not identify the body and sent it to the National Forensic Service for autopsy.
