SM launches K-pop complex

SM Entertainment, one of the country’s three major entertainment agencies, opened a cultural complex called SMTOWN@COEX Artium in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul, on Saturday.

During a pre-opening ceremony, SM artists such as Exo, Girl’s Generation and Super Junior attended the complex’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The cultural facility is designed for local and international fans to experience a day with their favorite stars.

In one corner of the complex, fans are able to watch virtual concerts and musicals in which avatars of singers perform on stage in the form of 3-D images.

The venue is able to accommodate up to 800 people at a time.

At cafes in the complex, fans are able to purchase products that bear the logos and photographs of their favorite K-pop groups.

The center’s official opening is Jan. 13.
