Improving history

The National Museum of Korea recently completed the restoration of two paintings from the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) that are kept at the British Museum in London. One is “Obongdo (Painting of Five Mountain Peaks),” seen above. The restoration - which took place over two years, beginning in April 2012 - was part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) the museums signed in 2011. Under the MOU, the national museum will help preserve Korean relics at the British Museum under the condition that they will be actively introduced to visitors of the institute’s Korean gallery.
