[top10]Top North officials come to Asian Games

In a surprising and rare move, North Korea sent three of its top officials to South Korea on Oct. 4 to attend the closing ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games, an event that marked the highest-level face-to-face talks in five years.

While here, the 11-member delegation from Pyongyang, led by Vice Marshal Hwang Pyong-so, considered the second-most powerful man in the regime, agreed with Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-Jae and other South Korean officials to restart high-level government talks.

Choe Ryong-hae, a Workers’ Party Central Committee secretary who is considered the third-most powerful in the regime, and Kim Yang-gon, a top party official in charge of South Korean affairs who orchestrated a series of inter-Korean talks in recent years, were also among the delegates.
