Samsung announces resignations of executives
Two vice presidents of Samsung Electronics have resigned for personal reasons. On Monday, Samsung said Kim Seok-pil, vice president of strategic marketing for the company’s mobile communications department, has turned in his resignation for health reasons. The company said the resignation is effective immediately, but did not provide further details.
The news comes as Samsung prepares to unveil its latest Galaxy 6 smartphone at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona next month.
In addition, the first quarter is considered a crucial time for the world’s leading smartphone vendor, which faces stiff challenges from Apple and Chinese smartphone vendors like Xiaomi.
It is said that Kim’s health recently has deteriorated significantly and made it impossible for him to carry out his responsibilities.
Lee Sang-chul, vice president in charge of Central Asian countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, will succeed Kim.
Park Gwang-gi, vice president of the company’s video display department in charge of strategic marketing, also resigned.
His decision came as a surprise, considering that the display business has been doing well compared to the smartphone division.
In an email to employees, Park said he has enjoyed his 30 years with Samsung.
The company said it would process Park’s resignation soon and will choose a successor.
