SM sues Exo’s Kris, Luhan

Music agency SM Entertainment has filed a damage suit against Luhan and Chinese advertisers who have hired the former member of Exo on Thursday.

SM also said in a press release that it will start a similar lawsuit against Kris, another ex-member of the boy group.

Both Kris and Luhan debuted in Korea through Exo in 2012 but filed separate lawsuits against the agency in May and October last year in which they asked the central court to nullify the validity of their contracts, citing tight schedules and their health.

Since the legal case is still ongoing, SM’s contracts with Kris and Luhan are still valid and they still legally belong to the agency.

But the two left the boy group right after filing the lawsuits and returned to their home country.

Since then, the two have been actively pursuing their singing and acting careers in China.

“Based on Exo’s popularity, the two are appearing in films, commercials and events and we see this violating the rights of other Exo members and SM Entertainment,” SM said in a press release on Thursday.

“We filed a lawsuit in the Chinese court to stop them from illegally performing [in China] and to prevent SM Entertainment from having further damage caused by the two”

Despite the departure of the two Chinese members, Exo achieved numerous prizes and honors from domestic and international music awards last year.
