Pledis to debut a brand new boy band

A brand-new boy group named Seventeen will debut sometime in April, according to Pledis Entertainment, home to K-pop acts like After School and Orange Caramel.

The rookie boy group consists of 13 members and has already built up fandom in Asian countries because the recruiting and training process, which took about two years, was televised through Pledis’ official YouTube channel.

The entertainment agency plans to divide the boy group into three spinoffs targeting the Korean, Chinese and Japanese music markets.

Many of its members were born and raised overseas, and therefore makes it easier for the band to attract global music fans like other boy groups.

Pledis added that it originally recruited 17 members for the group but that four were eliminated during the harsh training process.

The agency added that it has no plans to add more members to reflect its name.
