JYP creates audition show

JYP Entertainment, home to popular K-pop acts 2AM, 2PM and Miss A, will produce a TV audition show with cable channel Mnet.

The program is titled “Sixteen” and will differentiate itself from other audition shows by featuring two groups of trainees.

One group of trainees has seven members who are potential candidates for a future JYP girl group that will be unveiled to the public sometime in the future.

Another group consists of nine JYP trainees who could replace one of seven candidates in the future girl group if they work hard enough.

JYP said on Friday that there are four Japanese contestants and one Chinese candidate among the 16 trainees.

It is not the first time for JYP to produce such a show. The entertainment agency created a similar show in the early 2000s with SBS.

The new show will air from early April on Mnet.
