Kris, Luhan kicked off show

Kris and Luhan, who were supposed to appear on a reality TV show on China Central Television, were reportedly kicked off the program, which was scheduled to hit the airwaves during the Lunar New Year holidays, according to Chinese news outlet Sina.

Since CCTV is the largest broadcaster on the mainland, industry insiders assume the cancellation is related to the current legal battles between Kris and Luhan and SM Entertainment.

Both Kris and Luhan made their debut with the boy group Exo in 2012 but filed separate yet similar lawsuits against SM in May and October last year in which they asked the court to nullify their contracts, citing tight schedules and their health.

Since the legal battles are ongoing, the two are still members of Exo but now are pursuing singing and acting careers in China based on their popularity from Exo.

To stop them from performing in China on the basis of Exo’s popularity, SM filed a lawsuit against Luhan and Chinese advertisers who have hired the former member of Exo recently.

SM also said it will file a similar suit against Kris.

No specific reasons have been given regarding Kris and Luhan’s removal from the CCTV’s Lunar New Year special show, but industry insiders say it is due to connections between the Korean and Chinese entertainments industries.
