Holiday medical service detailed in ministry app

To subdue concerns surrounding the temporary shutdown of medical facilities over the Lunar New Year holidays, the health authority introduced ways for locals to help find the nearest treatment center in case of an emergency.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Tuesday it has consulted with regional medical and pharmaceutical associations to run an emergency treatment system until Sunday, in which institutions will take turns closing to stagger operating hours.

Information regarding the closest hospital or pharmacy will be offered through the ministry’s call center at 129 or the national emergency hotline at 119 throughout the day.

For online guidance, log on to www.e-gen.or.kr or www.mw.go.kr.

The Health Ministry strongly advised the public to download its free smartphone application, a service in Korean that roughly translates to “urgent medical information assistance.”

The program offers a detailed map of all the hospitals and pharmacies near a user’s current location, their operating hours and services.

The Lunar New Year holiday starts Wednesday.
