Son wins hoop silver in Lisbon World Cup
Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae took the silver medal in the hoop competition on Sunday, local time, at the 2015 FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Lisbon.At Municipal Sports Complex Casal Vistoso, the 20-year-old Son scored 18.050 points to place second place behind Russia’s Magarita Mamun, who had 18.950 points. However, she failed to medal in the other events, sharing fifth in the ball with Japan’s Hayakawa Sakura at 17.250 points and taking fifth in clubs at 17.800 points. Son was sixth in ribbon (17.150 points).
In the overall competition on Saturday, the Yonsei University student placed fourth with 72.050 points.
Son’s points in the individual events were no better than her performance in the overall.
Aleksandra Soldatova of Russia was the overall winner with 73.600 points, followed by compatriots Mamun and Yana Kudryavtseva.
Son is scheduled to participate in FIG’s second world cup of the season in Romania next month.
