Bone dry
Satellite images demonstrate the severity of the drought in the Soyang River area in Gangwon. The top image, taken on March 22 by the Arirang 3 multipurpose satellite, shows a dry river bed above the Soyang Dam. The bottom image, taken in April 2012 by the Arirang 2 satellite, shows water in the same river. The precipitation in Gangwon from Dec. 1 until March 26 was only a quarter of the average precipitation for the period. Provided by Korea Aerospace Research Institute
