Setting the record straight

Setting the record straight - Oh Sang-keun, professor in construction materials engineering at Seoul National University of Science & Technology, left, and Hong Sung-gul, an architecture professor at Seoul National University, explain safety test results to local journalists on Tuesday and describe the additional repairs Lotte Corporation, the construction arm of the retail conglomerate, made on its aquarium at Lotte World Mall in Jamsil, southeastern Seoul. Lotte Group held a press tour that included a film showing at its movie theater and a visit to the aquarium, which raised safety concerns in December. Cracks were found in the aquarium’s enclosure, while moviegoers complained that cinema’s thin walls allowed outside sounds to infiltrate from adjacent screening rooms. The safety inspection team confirmed that the structure of the movie theater and the aquarium had been reinforced to enhance safety. Lotte World Mall, the nation’s biggest retail and entertainment complex, opened in October, though its popularity has been dogged due to a series of accidents. In two separate incidents, doors to the complex fell on top of shoppers. [NEWSIS]
