Big Bang tops Billboard

Big Bang’s tracks “Loser” and “Bae Bae,” which were released on May 1, hit the first and second slots, respectively, on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart late last week.

The boy band is the fourth Korean act to occupy No. 1 in the music chart after Psy, 2NE1 and G-D x Taeyang, the two members of Big Bang who collaborated on “Good Boy” in 2014.

Big Bang also became the second K-pop act to have its songs record the top two places in the music chart, after Psy achieved the accomplishment with his hit songs “Gentleman” and “Gangnam Style” in April 2013.

According to a person affiliated with Billboard, Yang Hyun-suk, the CEO of YG Entertainment, which is a home agency to various K-pop chart-toppers, has been designated to be one of the International Power Players in 2014. Hip-hop trio Epik High and the girl group 2NE1 are a few of the artists who belong to the agency.

In addition to the songs, their music videos recorded the third and fourth place as the most-watched K-pop music videos in April in the United States. A person related to Billboard mentioned that it is meaningful for the boy group’s music videos to rank in such high positions despite being released on the last day of April.

The songs are maintaining the top spots in seven domestic music charts, and are in the iTunes charts in various countries.
