UN leadership meeting will take place in Seoul next week

The United Nations Global Summit’s leadership meeting will take place on May 19 at the Conrad Seoul, Yeouido, western Seoul.

Roughly 400 participants from companies, NGOs, academia and the government will discuss sustainable development, climate change and how to boost companies’ corporate social responsibility at the Korea Leaders Summit.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, a former Indonesian President and the current president of the Global Green Growth Institute, will be keynote speakers.

The owners of the 123 companies in the Kaesong Industrial Complex will participate in the summit’s “Business for Peace” initiative to urge companies to contribute to resolving regional conflicts in troubled spots. Following a special discussion between Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, and John Elkington, Co-founder of Volans, a future-focused business, a series of sessions between businessmen and government officials will be held about four issues: human rights, the environment, business for peace and reducing corruption.

The one-day forum will end at 6 p.m. after adopting a so-called “Seoul Declaration.”
