Japan’s Mao Asada will attempt a return to competitive figure skating after taking a year off.
Speaking at a news conference Monday, Asada said she misses competition and made the decision on her own.
The 24-year-old Asada captured her third world title at the 2014 figure skating world championships in Japan, which followed a sixth-place finish at the Sochi Olympics.
Exactly a year ago, Asada said she needed to take a break from skating.
Asada said she isn’t sure when her first competition will be and that she hasn’t thought about the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
Asada began figure skating at the age of five and won her first world title in 2008.
