Hanwha Q Cells sheds light on plan to boost solar production

Hanwha Q Cells, Hanwha Group’s solar power affiliate, said Sunday it will build two production plants. The company said it will build a plant with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts (GW) in Jincheon County, North Chungcheong and expand the 250-megawatt (MW) factory in Eumseong County, South Chungcheong, to 500 MW.

The company will invest 350 billion won ($314 million) in the Jincheon plant and 10 billion won in the Eumseong plant, adding that the expansion will create 950 jobs.

The company said the expansion is intended to stably produce 1.5 GW modules to NextEra Energy, the second-largest electric power company in the United States starting in the fourth quarter of 2016.
