Samsung Heavy Industries secures $330 million ship deal

Samsung Heavy Industries said Thursday it has signed a 370.2 billion won ($330 million) deal to build three shuttle tankers for a U.S.-based company. The contract was made during Nor-Shipping 2015, the world’s biggest ship exhibition underway in Norway. The three ships are 155,000 deadweight ton level vessels that are 293 meters (961 feet) long and 49 meters wide. The ships will be delivered by February 2018. Shuttle tankers are generally used to carry crude oil from offshore fields to a storage facilities on land. The vessels are often used in the North Sea, eastern Canada and Brazil.
